Teresa Norton, Director of Food Services for Kitchen Angels, shops daily at the Food Depot in Santa Fe, N.M.. (photographed on Oct. 16, 2009.) "We are purchasing much more food to supplement our donations than we ever have in the past" said Sherry Hooper, Executive Director of the Food Depot. "There was a time when the food we needed was donated, and we never had to purchase food." The Food Depot, which has seen a 20% increase in demand in the past year, supplies food daily to pantires that have seen their deamand doubled. When these pantries run short, less food is given out in every bad so that no one is turned away. In order to provide traditional holiday dinners to those in need, the Food Depo says they are going to have to increase their efforts to bring in more non-perishable food and frozen turkeys.
